February is Black History Month, making it a great time to look back on the stories of Black athletes, politicians and other figures who have shaped American history. While there are a number of popular movies that tell well-known stories from the Civil Rights movement or Jim Crow era, there are also powerful documentaries about athletes and public figures who carved out of a spot in history for themselves—no matter how hard the deep-ridden racism in America tried to keep them out.

1. The Green Book
